Can your students actually get to your blog site? I'm surprised--so many of the rest of us can't get to ours at school.
At any rate, I love the question and the directions on how to answer it. Good job! If you don't mind, I would like to answer it as well--not that I will be able to do as well as you or your students when answering it!
I think one of my favorite songs to sing with my classes has been Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes. (During the month of October when we're talking about ghosts, ghouls, and other monsters, we sing Horns, Fangs, Knees and Claws.) My students love it when we start very slow singing it and helping them touch each area as mentioned. We then sing it faster and faster until we are going so fast we can't keep up with where our hands are supposed to be. The students laugh and laugh if we (my assistants and I) mess it up! About the 4th run through of the song we invariably sing it correctly but we get mixed up when we touch the students' knees instead of toes or their shoulder instead of the head. When singing the Halloween version, they laugh even harder at us--I think they are trying to figure out if we really have horns and fangs or not!
Everyone in my class has fun singing "This Old Man," especially me. There are lots of silly hand movements. I know exactly when to do my part. Even better, sometimes we sing it really fast. Then I have to remember all the parts in a hurry. We laugh so hard! I really like to sing this song.
Students are required to include in their comment's: 1. The sentence that states the topic and main idea. 2. Find the reason and detail in each sentence. 3. What are two reasons why the writer likes to sing the song?
Happily married for 6 years to the love of my life. Trying to raise responsible, God loving and respectful boys. I love my job and hope to truly make a difference in some children's quality of life.
